New Maryland House Bill Aims to Strengthen ‘Move Over’ Law

In 2018, Maryland’s ‘Move Over Law‘ was amended so that all motor vehicles were to slow down or move over when approaching work/utility vehicles using visual signals. This year, Optotraffic supports House Bill 1368, Sponsored by Delegate Anne Healey. This bill authorizes emergency/safety/service vehicles stopped on highways to use a ‘move over’ safety monitoring system to capture video or images for the issuance of civil citations to registered owners of vehicles that violate the ‘move over’ law.

Optotraffic offered an amendment to the bill which was accepted. The amendment added the Maryland State Police as an additional authorized law enforcement agency.
